CIMIT Awards Fellowship in Trauma

At the annual meeting of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), CIMIT Program Leader George Velmahos, M.D., Ph.D. presented Dr. Jeffery S. Ustin with the CIMIT Research Fellowship in field of technology in trauma and critical care.

Dr. Ustin is currently an assistant professor in surgery at the MetroHealth Medical Campus of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. His research project is entitled “A Novel IVC Filter Allowing for Triggered Resorption.”

The AAST/CIMIT Fellowship provides $75,000 for innovative research in trauma and critical care, and encourages the recipient to investigate new technologies that will improve the quality of trauma applications currently available. This is the first year the AAST/CIMIT fellowship was offered and will be presented again next year.

AAST is the Chicago based premier academic trauma surgery organization in the country. It was established to further the study and practice of traumatic surgery in its various departments.

A non-profit consortium of Boston area teaching hospitals and engineering schools, CIMIT provides innovators with resources to explore, develop and implement novel technological solutions for today’s most urgent healthcare problems.
