SONOWAND AS Joins CIMIT's Industry Liaison Program
SONOWAND AS, a company focused on the field of intraoperative imaging for neurosurgery, has joined the CIMIT Liaison Program. The company has introduced SONOWAND AS, a high quality intraoperative 3D ultrasound imaging modality combined with navigation capabilities for neurosurgical applications.
By developing dedicated technology for optimized 3D ultrasound for the brain, SONOWAND AS Invite™ has proven beneficial for multiple clinical indications in neurosurgery, such as resection control for tumor treatment, vascular treatment (e.g. aneurisms), catheter placement, cyst drainage and free hand biopsy.
The high quality ultrasound image, comparable in quality to the MRI typically used in intraoperative navigation, is key to the success of the SONOWAND AS® system.
SONOWAND AS was established under the name of MISON in 1998 by Aage Grønningsøter and Atle Kleven and is a spin-off company from the Center of Excellence in 3D Ultrasound in Trondheim, Norway,
A major objective of the new firm is further development of the prototype system to the commercial product SONOWAND AS® and SONOWAND AS Invite™. SONOWAND AS now employs over 20 people in the fields of research, development, logistics, marketing and sales.
SONOWAND AS’s long term-goal is to broaden the application range for intraoperative imaging to other clinical fields by introducing and developing high quality intraoperative ultrasound systems. This focus will benefit more patients and surgeons.
SONOWAND AS officials say they look forward to meeting with CIMIT-related companies and individuals so that different parties can discuss how they can benefit from SONOWAND AS research programs and market presence.
CIMIT welcomes inquiries about SONOWAND AS and would be happy to provide introductions. Please contact Mary Ann Cooke, CIMIT Industry Liaison Program Manager, mcooke@partners.org for more information.
