BACKGROUND

George O’Connor, MD completed his undergraduate studies and medical school at Boston University, followed by residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital. He then completed a subspecialty fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and earned a MS degree in physiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. In 1992, he joined the faculty of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, where he is now Professor of Medicine. He is an attending physician and Director of the Adult Asthma Program at Boston Medical Center. His research focuses on epidemiologic and clinical investigations of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and sleep apnea. He is the Boston University principal investigator of several NIH-funded multi-center investigations including the Sleep Heart Health Study, the Inner-City Asthma Consortium, and the Feasibility of Retinoid Therapy for Emphysema Study. He also conducts research on the genetic risk factors for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and he participates in research on lung disease in the Framingham Heart Study.
