Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) Joins CIMIT's Industry Liaison Program

CAMBRIDGE, MA, May 12, 2006 - CIMIT is pleased to announce that Sharp Labs has joined the Industry Liaison Program.

Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) is a part of Sharp Corporation's global research and development network. As a corporate research lab, SLA has developed advanced technologies in areas such as flat panel displays, consumer electronics and digital information technology. SLA is currently exploring the frontiers of consumer or personal health and wellness applications in the newly launched Personal Health Technologies (PHT) project.

The primary mission of the PHT project is the research and development of enabling technologies for health and wellness applications designed to reduce costs and improve quality of care and an individual's health or wellness quotient. The emphasis is on personal healthcare and wellness management, telemedicine applications, and home care/wellness management applications. Sharp, as a consumer electronics pioneer, has developed a broad range of technologies and products that are used by the consumer at home or in personal devices. Sharp appliances and personal devices are deployed worldwide. The PHT project, in collaboration with clinical experts, care providers, technologists and consumers, also intends to leverage these platforms in the development of new personal/wellness applications.

Sharp hopes that access to CIMIT's network of clinical experts, and collaborations in initiatives such as Connected Health and Telemedicine, will help in realizing the goals of its health and wellness related R&D programs.
